Located in the heart of Jefferson’s Historic Riverfront District, The Jeffersonian Institute building offers the perfect venue for wedding receptions, conferences, educational seminars and training, conventions and as an event center. This modern facility features 19th century Jefferson style architecture with balconies overlooking the bayou on one side and the historic downtown area of Jefferson on the other side. On the first floor there are three ballrooms, a central gallery and an interior New Orleans-style open courtyard. There is a kitchen servery with a double sink, two dishwashers, a small commercial cooler and service access to Austin Street from a covered service driveway. The service kitchen and two exhibit rooms are located on the first floor. This venue has dishes and glassware for one hundred, two hundred banquet chairs, numerous round tables, classroom tables, and event tables. There are also twelve iron patio tables and fifty-two iron chairs to match in the courtyard. Plantation shutters adorn all of the large windows in the building. There are two ornate wooden tables at each entrance as well as two portable meta obelisks. A baby grand piano enhances the gallery and a commercial elevator and a reception area are at the south entrance as well as a visitor center with high ceilings for exhibit displays. Restrooms are located adjacent to the visitor center. The second floor may be reached using the elevator or the two staircases. There are at least seventeen office spaces and classrooms, two large assembly rooms, storage rooms, restrooms, access to the courtyard balconies and a board room with a large table and twelve chairs. Two of the rooms have bookshelves with file cabinets. There is also a server space upstairs with a refrigerator, microwave and sink. On the south side of the building is Dallas Street, Big Cypress Bayou and a 31 acre environmental park with a boat launching area. On the north side is Austin Street with restaurants, shops, bars, hotels and the county courthouse. The Jeffersonian Institute could serve as a business conferencing center and be adapted to become a boutique hotel. Its heavy steel and concrete foundation and infrastructure allows many possibilities for other adaptive uses.
